Basic CRB check
A basic CRB check is obtainable by both individuals and companies and can be used for any purpose. The basic CRB check includes details of any convictions that are considered to be ‘unspent’ (after a specific period of time some criminal convictions become classed as ‘spent’, meaning that the individual can truthfully state that they hold no criminal convictions). The basic CRB check is only issued to and can only be applied for by the individual concerned. The basic check disclosure can be used more than once and is not job specific.
Standard CRB check
For certain occupations a standard check is required including medical, legal, finance and education. The standard check discloses all criminal convictions including those classes as ‘spent’. The standard CRB check also checks for any cautions, reprimands or final warnings that may have been issued.
Enhanced CRB check
For occupations involving contact with vulnerable adults and children to a greater degree an enhanced CRB check is required, for example employees in hospitals, schools and care homes etc...) An enhanced check investigates the individual in more depth by checking local police records as well as national police records.
